ActiveMerchant Standard handles all authentication messaging and communication on the merchant's behalf. ActiveMerchant Standard checks the customer's credit card with the relevant Directory Service to ensure it is enrolled with Verified by Visa, MasterCard SecureCode or JCB J/Secure before asking the cardholder's bank to authenticate the customer.
