What costs are involved in setting up ActiveMerchant Standard?
The ActiveMerchant Standard can be freely downloaded from the GPayments website. License keys are required for each merchant and are available for purchase by registering with the ActiveMerchant Distribution website. ActiveMerchant also utilises an SSL connection, which may require the purchase of a separate SSL signed certificate from a public certificate authority such as Verisign. ^ top

What are the software requirements for ActiveMerchant?
Activemerchant 2.5 runs on Java 1.3. ActiveMerchant 3.1 runs on Java 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5 and will be continue to be available from mpi.gpayments.com until March 2006.

ActiveMerchant 3.2 runs on improved Java 1.4 and 1.5 (also known as Java 5) platforms. Java 1.3 is being officially retired by Sun at the end of March 2006. Support for Java 1.3 has been discontinued in version 3.2.

ActiveMerchant documentation covers the steps for installation and integration with some typical eCommerce systems. This documentation is available by registering with the ActiveMerchant Distribution website. ^ top

Yes, you can configure the ActiveMerchant Standard test merchant and test the integration with your eCommerce system without purchasing a license key. ^ top

Do I need to purchase a license key?
You can use the pre-loaded test merchant for testing purposes. When you have successfully completed your testing, you can purchase an ActiveMerchant Standard license key from GPayments ActiveMerchant Distribution website. ^ top

How many license keys do I need?
Within ActiveMerchant, each merchant is identified by a unique Merchant ID, which is assigned by your acquiring bank. You will require a license key for each unique merchant you create. ^ top

What does the purchase of a license key entitle me to?
By purchasing an ActiveMerchant Standard license key, you are entitled to email notification of bug fixes & updates; free access to updates through the online distribution facility; use of 3-D Secure Test Facility. ^ top

Does GPayments provide support?
Yes, GPayments provides 3rd level email support for bug fixes. GPayments can also provide support for your integration and implementation and the support form can be downloaded through the ActiveMerchant Distribution website. ^ top

Are there different editions of ActiveMerchant?
Yes, there are two editions of ActiveMerchant; Standard and Enterprise. ActiveMerchant Enterprise is a robust merchant authentication system capable of handling large transaction volumes. It is best suited for large Internet merchants, Acquirers, Internet Payment Gateways and Third Party Processors. ActiveMerchant Enterprise can be run as a standalone application or within a managed service or payment gateway environment providing 3-D Secure functionality to multiple merchants simultaneously. ^ top

How can I evaluate ActiveMerchant Enterprise?
Download the ActiveMerchant Enterprise evaluation package from the ActiveMerchant Distribution website and follow the instructions contained within. ^ top

Is there any formal certification process required after installing the ActiveMerchant?
Visa and MasterCard require MPI merchant end-point implementations to be tested before moving into production. Visa provides a Product Integration Testing (PIT) facility and MasterCard provides SecureCode functional testing to allow your 3-D Secure implementations to be tested. You will need to contact your acquiring bank or card scheme representative to complete this testing phase. ^ top
